About Us

𝘽𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙡 · 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨* 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 develops and implements projects that meaningfully involve small-scale fishers in marine conservation and fisheries science. Our work supports stronger co-management and more resilient fishing communities by:
• Appropriately mapping fishing communities and stakeholders
• Co-developing and implementing applied research projects with fishers
• Designing and facilitating goal-oriented stakeholder roundtables, fostering participatory decision-making
• Empowering small-scale fisher associations
• Integrating local ecological knowledge into monitoring, assessments, and management plans. We also deliver tailored, practical training in field-research and data management, offered individually to researchers or as part of capacity-building programs for organisations.

𝘽𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙡 · 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 advances the active participation of small-scale fishers in governance and research, while building strategic partnerships with fishers’ associations, NGOs, charitable funds, ecolabelling certifying bodies, academic institutions, research centers, environmental and fisheries authorities.

𝘽𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙡 · 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 is composed of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, including fisheries biologists, data and GIS analysts, and specialists in participatory processes. We all share a common vision: 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭-𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴.

* The “babelfish” is a fictional fish in Douglas Adams’ book, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘩𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘳’𝘴 𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘹𝘺 (1978). By placing this peculiar, small, yellow, leech-like organism in your ear, you gain the ability to understand anything spoken to you in any form or language.
